string quilt breaks the drought

Sew-jo has returned! I finally cleaned and rationalised my sewing room. More on THAT epic battle of the psyche at a later date. I just wanted to sew straight lines! Lots and lots of straight lines. And I needed to use ONLY fabric that came from my stash. So a strippy string quilt was the way to go. I’d never made one before but it looked pretty straightforward. This one certainly won’t be my last. I think they’re amazingly beautiful, and yet they’re a total no-brainer to put together. As long as you sew the same fabric cut to the same width EXACTLY in the middle of each square, when you put them all together they will form squares and look neat. All the rest of the fabric strips can be random widths and colours. You’ll end up with lovely neat boxes containing wonderful chaos. See this awesome tutorial.

I got the top done really quickly, and the next one will be even faster. I think it may not be quite done, it could maybe use a pieced border before I back it and put on a binding. Of course, before any further work can be done it needs to be liberally spread with cat fluff. Thankfully, Edie has that under control.
